Which Stink Bugs Are Actually in Your Yard?
Florida is home to several stink bug species, and they don’t all behave the same way. Knowing which one you’re looking at changes what you should do about it.
Southern Green Stink Bug
This is the pest species most Merritt Island homeowners encounter. It feeds on tomatoes, beans, citrus, and ornamental plants, leaving behind a type of fruit blemishing called catfacing damage. Activity peaks October through December and again March through April.
Florida Predatory Stink Bug
This beneficial species has a metallic blue-black body with orange markings and hunts caterpillars and beetles rather than your garden plants. If you find one, leave it alone. It’s working in your favor.
Brown Marmorated Stink Bug
The invasive species responsible for large indoor infestations in northern states has only one confirmed established population in Florida, in a Lake County peach orchard. Most sightings here are isolated hitchhikers, not a spreading population.

Why Stink Bugs Gather Around Homes on Merritt Island
